THE BENEFITS OF USING SCHOOL UNIFORM




School is an institution designed for teaching student under the control of teacher. At school we can also get many lessons from teacher or friends.The school is usually classified according to level, such as primary school, junior high school and senior high school. At school, we can get very useful knowledge from the teacher because school is a place as of education for each student. At school every student not only gets   formal education and non-formal education but also get lesson about the discipline in everything, for example, using school uniform. Every school has a different uniform, so that other people can distinguish one school from another school.  There are three benefits of using school uniform such as there is no social gap, it increases their discipline and it shows the identity of the student.


                First, there is no social gap in society especially at school environment if the students wear the same school uniform, so  it can prevent the gap between the rich and poor students.It means there are no striking differences among the students. School  uniform is  made in order to facilitate the students not to think about what to wear. But the most important thing is to minimize or avoid the social gap among the students. Social  gap will be easier to see if the school does not implement the using of school uniforms because with using school uniforms we can suppress the difference between the rich student  and poor student without seeing their social background. Therefore every student will learn how to carry out their friendship without seeing what they wear.


                Second, wearing school uniform also increases their discipline. The meaning of discipline itself is a mental exercise that manifests itself in behavior which has the goal of keeping people to obey the rules. By teaching discipline, it is expected that each student should be able to discipline themeselves to always adhere to school rules. One school to another school absolutely has difference rules. School uniform is also to train every student for discipline. Disciplined students always wear a correct, complete and neat uniform while indisciplined students usually like to wear the wrong uniform, not a complete school uniform. For examples,  school A requires all student to wear “school batik” on Tuesday but another school  on another day. The most important thing is that the students should  know that every school does not want the existence of a breach within uniforms. Many students change the shape of their school uniforms, for example, the girls like to shorten their skirt to be above the knee and slim fit  their school shirt the boys like to slim their trousers to be skinny trousers . It is not a good exemple because it breaks the school rules that have been set. So the rules are made to make every student obey all the rules. However it is not easy to discipline the students in a short time because it needs a process to make it happen.
                Third, by wearing school uniform, the students  can show their identity, so  people will  know which one  is a student or not student from their uniforms. Just imagine if the students at school are permitted to use free clothes, the school will not know which one is the student and which one is not. Someone who is not registered as a student at school can come easily in to school. As a result, learning and teaching process cannot run well because the condition is too crowded by the people who are not supposed to be at school. The student’s identity can be seen from the color of school uniforms they use. It indicates the levels of education. In Indonesia, primary school students wear white top and red bottoms, most of junior high school students usually  wear white top and blue bottoms, and senior high school students white top and grey bottoms.  So with the color, the other people know the levels of education from the uniform. Besides that we can also minimize bullying case among the school.


                In short, there are so many benefits of using school uniforms. I think with school uniform, it can minimize social gap, which makes the students not think what clothes to wear. Besides that it also increases their discipline as it is part of school rules that they have to obey. And of course it shows their identity as a student, which makes them different from the other people.
